Fremantle is well known as an enclave for artists, musicians and people with an interest in personal development, yoga and meditation.
When choosing a therapist, it is important to choose someone who has done their own therapy. Indeed, psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists are all required to do their own personal therapy. However, the level of commitment and interest individual therapists bring to this varies. Therefore, in Fremantle, there is a high concentration of people who are committed to their own journey, so it is likely that you might find a skilled counsellor in Fremantle.
I emigrated to Australia in 2006, and could have settled anywhere. It’s always been important for me to be surrounded by like minded people, and to have that support around me. I also like to have access to good quality therapists and training in counselling for my professional and personal development.
Obviously, the East Coast has a larger population, and therefore has some excellent trainings on offer. However, I was drawn to Fremantle because of the concentration of like-minded people here, and for the art and music that Fremantle offers. I also like it that I can get to the beach easily, or even out to wild nature in the bush in under an hour. So if I need a break from city life it’s easy….. which is very important for my meditation practice!
For a very isolated city, and maybe because it is isolated, there seem to be some excellent counselling, psychology and psychotherapy trainings in Fremantle. There are also some great yoga trainings, Chi Gong teachers, Mindfulness teachers and so on. All in all I find that this makes Fremantle a very rich place to offer counselling and therapy.
